There Is Something I Need To Tell You: Mack is Fighting Against Terminal Cancer

Ward “Mack” McClendon, the bold community leader of the Lower 9th Ward and founder of the Lower 9th Ward Village was diagnosed with terminal brain, lung, and kidney cancer at the end of last year. This may come as a shock to many of his Village community as he is someone who dedicated everyday to serving others and put everyone else’s needs in front of his own. At this time, we ask that you help out his family and close friends with his medical/daily/funeral expenses and help Mack fulfill his last wishes as he lives out the rest of his time here with us. You can donate at

He has dedicated his entire life to serving those around him- in particular the elders, young people, and the working class. He has given his everything (I mean everything from life savings to even his own house) in helping his neighbors and the Lower 9th Ward community come back since Katrina, He has helped thousands and thousands of volunteers to see and understand the injustices the Lower 9th Ward, a community that had the highest concentration of black homeowners, continues to face.

At this time, we need to come together as a community and show the love and support to Mack that he has taught us all about. He has connected and touched the lives of so many with his commitment and dedication to change for a better world.
